Tone Library: Pre-Built Voice Profiles

Pre-built tone profiles that can be loaded before writing any content piece. Each profile defines feel, attitude, engagement level, complexity, and sentence construction rules.

How to Use

  1. Select a profile that matches the client's brand or content goal
  2. Load the profile before writing
  3. Every sentence passes through the profile filter before it ships

Profile 1: Backlinko

Use when: Long-form SEO content, authority articles, data-heavy pieces.

| Dimension | Score (1-10) | Definition | |-----------|-------------|------------| | Feel | 8 | Warm, confident, approachable expert | | Attitude | 9 | Strong opinions, backed by data | | Engagement | 9 | Keeps reader moving, no fluff | | Complexity | 7 | Accessible but not dumbed down |

Sentence construction:

  • Short sentences dominate. 10-15 words max for key points.
  • One idea per sentence. Never compound two insights.
  • Data leads. "We analyzed 11.8 million search results" not "In our research..."
  • Subheadings every 150-200 words — reader never feels trapped in a wall of text
  • Bold the takeaway, not the intro phrase

Voice markers:

  • "Here's the thing:" (pattern interrupt)
  • "Bottom line:" (conclusion signal)
  • Specific numbers over vague quantifiers ("3.4x" not "significantly more")
  • Present tense for findings, past tense for methodology

Profile 2: Tech Gadget

Use when: Product reviews, specs breakdowns, comparison content, tech buyer guides.

| Dimension | Score (1-10) | Definition | |-----------|-------------|------------| | Feel | 6 | Objective, slightly enthusiastic | | Attitude | 6 | Informative, not opinionated | | Engagement | 7 | Efficient — respects reader's time | | Complexity | 8 | Technical detail expected and welcomed |

Sentence construction:

  • Spec-first language: lead with the number, follow with context
  • Use comparison tables for competing products
  • Parenthetical qualifiers: "(measured at 6 inches from speaker)"
  • Active voice for test results: "The battery lasted 14.2 hours" not "14.2 hours was observed"
  • Avoid superlatives unless backed by benchmark data

Voice markers:

  • "In testing..." / "Under real-world conditions..."
  • Model numbers and version strings are sacred — never abbreviate
  • Bullet lists for specs, paragraphs for narrative
  • Final verdict section required on all review formats

Profile 3: Newscaster

Use when: Press releases, PR content, event announcements, local business news.

| Dimension | Score (1-10) | Definition | |-----------|-------------|------------| | Feel | 5 | Neutral, authoritative | | Attitude | 4 | Objective, minimal opinion | | Engagement | 6 | Clear and direct | | Complexity | 5 | Accessible to general audience |

Sentence construction:

  • Inverted pyramid: most important information first
  • Attribution required: "According to [source]..." / "[Name], [Title], said..."
  • No contractions
  • Third person throughout
  • 5W structure in first paragraph: Who, What, When, Where, Why

Voice markers:

  • Dateline format for press releases: "CITY, STATE — Month DD, YYYY —"
  • Quotes must be full sentences, properly attributed
  • Numbers: spell out one through nine, numerals for 10+
  • No exclamation points. No ellipses.
