Keyword Content Planner: Seed to Intent-Classified Content Plan

From one seed keyword to a full content calendar. Five steps: expand the seed, cluster into super-categories, generate long-tail targets, classify intent, then write titles and meta for each piece.

Step 1: Seed Keyword Expansion

Start with 1-3 seed keywords. A seed is a broad, short-tail phrase that defines the topic:

Examples:

  • "roof repair" (service)
  • "email marketing" (topic)
  • "personal injury lawyer Chicago" (local service)

Expansion sources:

  • Google autocomplete (type seed + A through Z)
  • PAA questions from first SERP page
  • Google's "related searches" at bottom of SERP
  • Competitor page H2 structures

Output: 30-60 raw keyword ideas for each seed.

Step 2: Cluster Into Super-Categories

Group the 30-60 raw keywords into 4-6 super-categories. These become the pillar topics.

Example (seed: "roof repair"):

| Super-Category | Keyword Examples | |---------------|-----------------| | Cost and Pricing | roof repair cost, how much to repair roof, roof repair estimate | | DIY vs Professional | DIY roof repair, fix roof yourself, when to call a roofer | | Types of Damage | hail damage roof repair, wind damage, missing shingles | | Finding a Contractor | best roofer near me, how to choose a roofing contractor | | Process and Timeline | how long does roof repair take, roof repair process | | Location-Specific | roof repair Denver, roofing contractors near me |

Each super-category = one pillar page + supporting cluster pages.

Step 3: Long-Tail Generation

For each super-category, generate 5-10 long-tail keyword targets:

Long-tail characteristics:

  • 4-7 words
  • Specific qualifier (city, price range, material type, audience type)
  • Lower competition than seed
  • Clear intent signal

Long-tail formula: [Qualifier] + [Super-category keyword] + [Modifier]

Examples for "Cost and Pricing":

  • "average cost to repair roof after hail storm"
  • "roof repair cost per square foot 2026"
  • "how much does it cost to fix a leaking roof"
  • "roof repair cost in Denver Colorado"
  • "small roof repair cost vs full replacement"

Step 4: Search Intent Classification

Classify every keyword before assigning to a content type:

| Intent Type | Signal Words | Best Content Type | |-------------|-------------|-------------------| | Informational | what, how, why, when, guide, tips, explained | Blog article, how-to | | Commercial investigation | best, top, review, compare, vs | Comparison page, review | | Transactional | buy, hire, cost, near me, free estimate | Service page, landing page | | Navigational | [brand name] + action | Homepage, about, contact |

Intent table output:

KEYWORD INTENT TABLE:
[Keyword] | [Intent] | [Content Type] | [Priority]
roof repair cost Denver | Transactional | Service/Location page | High
how long does roof repair take | Informational | Blog article | Medium
best roofers Denver | Commercial | Comparison/list article | High
emergency roof repair near me | Transactional | Service page + GMB | Highest

Step 5: Click-Optimized Titles and Meta Descriptions

For each planned content piece, generate:

Title tag (50-60 chars):

  • Primary keyword in first 40 characters
  • Qualifier or power word in remainder
  • Current year if evergreen list/guide

Meta description (145-160 chars):

  • Restate intent match in first sentence
  • Add specificity (number, outcome, or unique angle)
  • End with CTA

Template:

Title: [Primary keyword] — [Qualifier] | [Brand Name]
Meta: [Intent-matching opening statement]. [Specific detail]. [CTA].

Example:

Title: Roof Repair Cost in Denver (2026) | [Company Name]
Meta: Average roof repair costs $380-$1,700 in Denver. See real prices by damage type and get a free estimate from licensed local roofers.
