Content Alignment Audit
The audit answers one question: "If a customer saw all of this content in the same week, would it feel like one coherent message or a scattered mess?"
Process
Step 1: Gather Content Inventory
Collect ALL content pieces scheduled for the audit period:
- YouTube/video scripts or topics
- Newsletter/email drafts
- Social media posts (all platforms)
- Blog posts or articles
- Podcast episodes or notes
- Ad copy (if running paid)
Step 2: Extract Core Message from Each Piece
For every content piece, extract:
- Primary topic/theme — what is this about?
- Key message — what's the one takeaway?
- CTA — what action does it drive?
- Tone — how does it feel?
- Audience segment — who is this for?
Step 3: Cross-Reference & Score Alignment
| Check | What to look for | |-------|-----------------| | Topic alignment | Are all pieces supporting the same theme or complementary themes? | | Message consistency | Do key messages reinforce each other or contradict? | | CTA coherence | Are CTAs pointing to the same destination/goal? | | Tone match | Is brand voice consistent across all pieces? | | Audience fit | Are all pieces speaking to the same audience segment? |
Alignment Score:
- Aligned (90-100%) — All pieces reinforce the same message
- Mostly Aligned (70-89%) — Minor inconsistencies, easy fixes
- Misaligned (50-69%) — Significant drift, rewrites needed
- Contradictory (<50%) — Content is actively working against itself
Step 4: Report Findings
CONTENT ALIGNMENT AUDIT — Week of [DATE]
─────────────────────────────────────────
Pieces Audited: [count]
Overall Alignment: [score]%
Verdict: [Aligned / Mostly Aligned / Misaligned / Contradictory]
PIECE-BY-PIECE BREAKDOWN:
[For each piece: title, topic, message, alignment status]
MISALIGNMENTS FOUND:
[Specific conflicts between specific pieces]
PROPOSED CHANGES:
[What to change and in which pieces]
─────────────────────────────────────────
Step 5: APPROVAL GATE
STOP and wait for user approval before making any changes. Present proposed changes clearly. Do not rewrite until GO.
Step 6: Rewrite Misaligned Content
Once approved:
- Rewrite only the misaligned pieces — don't touch aligned content
- Anchor rewrites to the PRIMARY content piece (usually the video or flagship content)
- Preserve the original format and platform-specific requirements
Step 7: Summary
- What was audited
- What misalignment was found
- What changes were made
Rules
- The PRIMARY content piece (usually the video or main campaign asset) is the anchor — everything else aligns TO it
- Never rewrite without explicit approval
- Minor tone differences between platforms are OK (LinkedIn is more professional than Instagram) — flag only meaningful message drift
- CTA misalignment is always HIGH severity — different CTAs confuse the audience
- If no misalignment is found, say so clearly and don't invent problems
Decision Logic
- User provides all content → run full audit (Steps 1-7)
- User provides only some content → audit what's available, flag what's missing
- User says "just audit, don't fix" → stop after Step 4
- User says "fix everything" → skip approval gate, rewrite all misaligned pieces
- Single content piece provided → can't audit alignment, suggest what companion content should cover instead
Anti-Patterns
- Don't flag platform-appropriate differences as misalignment
- Don't rewrite aligned content just to "improve" it — scope is alignment only
- Don't anchor to the weakest piece — anchor to the flagship content
